When a Livid link will not embed as a video player

Most website builders and content platforms let you paste a Livid link and get a working video player. On some sites it does not work, and what you see instead varies depending on the site.

Here is why that happens and what to do about it.

What you might be seeing

Any of the following usually points to the same cause:

• The link shows as a small preview card with a thumbnail rather than a player
• The link stays as plain text or a plain link with nothing else
• You get an error saying the video service is not supported or the URL is not allowed
• The link or embed code is removed when you save the post or page
• A blank space appears where the video should be

Why it happens

When you paste a link, a platform either recognises the site and replaces the link with a video player, or it does not recognise it and does something else instead. What that something else is depends on how the platform is built, which is why the result looks different from one site to the next.

Platforms keep their own list of the video services they recognise. That list is maintained by the platform, not by us, and it affects any video service a site has not been set up for.

There is nothing to change in your Livid account to fix it. It needs a one-time setting on the site itself.

Getting platforms to support Livid is our job, not yours. Email support@livid.com with:

• a link to the page or post where the video will not embed
• the Livid video link you pasted
• what happened when you posted it

We will contact the platform directly and give them everything they need to add support. Livid supports oEmbed and is listed in the official oEmbed providers registry, so for most platforms this is a configuration change rather than development work.

We cannot make another company change their product, so we will not promise an outcome. What we can tell you is that we follow every one of these up, and knowing where our customers are running into it is genuinely useful to us.

If you can add HTML to the page yourself

If the site you are posting on lets you add raw HTML, you do not need to wait for anything.

In Livid, open the video, select Share, choose Embed, and copy the code. Paste it into an HTML or embed block on your page.

Many sites that accept posts from members strip HTML out for security reasons, so this works best on pages you control directly.
