How to embed a Livid video on Patreon
Embedding Livid videos on Patreon
Livid integrates directly with Patreon, in most cases users can watch your videos directly in their feed, but for users on the Patreon mobile app, they will need to be taken to the Livid watch page. This guide shows you how to ensure those watch links are only accessible to your patrons.
Before you start
You'll need a Livid account with at least one uploaded video and a Patreon creator account.
Step 1: Connect your Patreon account
This is a one-time setup. It lets Livid verify your patrons' membership when they watch videos through the Patreon mobile app.
- In Livid, go to your account settings (click your avatar in the bottom-left corner).

- Find the Patreon section and click Connect.

- If you're not already logged into Patreon, you'll be asked to sign in. Then grant Livid permission to access your Patreon account by clicking Allow.

- Once connected, you'll see your Patreon account listed in your settings.

That's it for the account connection. You only need to do this once.
Step 2: Share a video to Patreon
For each video you want to embed on Patreon, you need to generate a Patreon-specific sharing link from Livid.
- Open the video in Livid and click the Share button.

- Select Patreon from the sharing options.

- Choose which Patreon account to use, then select the membership tiers (or minimum pledge amount) that should have access to this video.

Important: The tiers you select here must match the access settings you set on the Patreon post itself (see Step 3 below). If they don't match, your patrons may not be able to watch the video.
- Copy the link at the bottom of the panel.

Step 3: Create the Patreon post
Now switch over to Patreon to create the post that contains your video.
- In Patreon, start a new post.

- Paste the Livid sharing link into the post body. Patreon will automatically generate an embed preview.

- Set the post's access settings (which tiers can see it) to match the tiers you selected in Livid in Step 2.

- Publish the post. 💪
How playback works for your patrons
Desktop and mobile browsers: Patrons see the video embedded directly in the Patreon post. Patreon handles access based on the post's tier settings.
Patreon mobile app: Patrons see the post based on the Patreon tier settings, but tapping the video opens it on the Livid video page in their browser. They may be asked to log into Patreon once to verify their access. After that first login, playback is seamless. On the app, video access is controlled by the tier settings you chose in Livid.
This is why it's important to keep the tier settings in sync between Livid and Patreon. Desktop/browser viewers are gated by Patreon's post settings, and app viewers are gated by Livid's settings.
Domain allowlisting (automatic)
When you use the Patreon sharing flow described above, Livid automatically allows the domains Patreon needs for embedding (*.patreon.com and *.embedly.com ). You don't need to add these manually.
Limitations
Livid's Patreon integration works with membership-tier posts only. Selling individual posts (Patreon's one-time purchase option) is not currently supported. This is a limitation on Patreon's side.
Troubleshooting
Video won't play for a patron on the app: Check that the tier settings in Livid match the post's tier settings on Patreon. If they're out of sync, the patron might have access to the Patreon post but not the Livid video (or vice versa).
Patron is asked to log in repeatedly: This usually resolves after the first successful login. If it persists, ask them to clear their browser cookies for Patreon and try again.
Embed doesn't appear in the Patreon post: Make sure you're using the watch sharing link from Livid, not the embed code.
